For many of us who live in colder climates, winter means a number of skin problems for us. The biggest problem is generally dryness. Dry skin tends to feel tight, and in the worse cases, becomes flaky and uncomfortable. Here are our top 4 tips for taking care your skin in the winter!
Winter Skincare tips
1. Use a Humidifier
Lots of people swear by this tip – using a humidifier in their bedroom when sleeping helps hydrate skin. In the winter time, when the heat gets turned on inside your home, your skin can’t hold onto as much moisture. When its warm, its dry and the moisture gets sucked up into the air. Humidifiers work by creating moisture in the air which soothes dry skin and gives it more moisture. Moisturized skin can make wrinkles appear less apparent. You should aim for a humidity level inside your home of about 30-50%.
2. Use a face cream that is moisturizing
This winter skincare tip might seem obvious but so many people forget that during the winter months they should switch their face cream to something more moisturizing. Look for serums or creams that are oil-based.
We recommend E-Smooth Serum. This serum contains hyaluronic acid which is great for holding moisture in the skin. Hyaluronic acid has an amazing ability to retain moisture – holding up to 1,000 times its weight in water. It is an excellent moisturizer and at the same time, works to reduce the look of wrinkles and inflammation in the skin. It also contains aloe vera oil which is another ingredient that brings excellent moisture to the skin.
Exfoliation is so, so important! Did you know that if you exfoliate often, it allows the skin to better soak in your moisturizer? By scrubbing away the dead skin, it leaves your skin smoother and prepped to soak in moisture. You should exfoliate all year round, but should especially add this to your winter skincare routine.
4. Avoid super hot showers and baths
Hot, hot water is very drying for the skin! It strips your oils and leaves the skin feeling dry and flaky. It’s best to use lukewarm water and to follow up with a heavy creamy lotion after your shower.
If you follow these 4 winter skincare tips, you will rescue your skin from the frigid winter months! The winter blues are already bad enough… you shouldn’t have to deal with dry, icky skin.
