7 Things Emotionally Intelligent People Don’t Do

Emotionally intelligent people are approachable and comfortable to be around. Emotionally intelligent people will listen, offer encouragement or advice but won’t allow the problems of others to rule their life.
  2. Rarely complain. They have discovered that whining and grumbling does little to solve problems but rather intensifies them. The emotionally intelligent person is not a victim and therefore, does not act like one. They’re too busy looking for solutions.
  3. Know when to say no. High EI people are aware of the consequences of their actions. They are able to make fact-based, reasonable decisions.
  4. Don’t gossip. EI folks sidestep gossip in much the same way as they avoid drama. They are non-judgmental because they don’t like to be judged.
  5. Don’t count on others for happiness or confidence. They depend on themselves for their own happiness and are not easily swayed by the disappointment of others who are not “there for them”.
  6. Don’t engage in negative inner dialog. They have learned how to control most of that negative self-talk we all engage in. They don’t beat themselves up.
  7. Don’t dwell on the past. Those who dwell on the past suffer mental and spiritual grievances. Remorse is a trap that EI folk try to avoid. They learn from their past mistakes and move forward.
