The highly controversial marijuana plant has entered the world’s stage as a pathological boon. It is being acclaimed by those who suffer from epilepsy, arthritis, fibromyalgia and a host of chronic ailments for its ability to reduce inflammation and ease pain.
Non-Psychoactive, Non-Addictive and Non-Toxic
Cannabidiol oil, with its remarkable benefits, is rising in popularity even under intense scrutiny. Where else can we find a natural and healthy medication that produces such significant results without being addictive, psychoactive or toxic?
Joel Stanley on Cannabis News Network
In this fourth instalment of the Irish Miniseries, Cannabis News Network talks to Joel Stanley, one of the creators of the famous cannabis strain, Charlotte’s Web, who also attended the Global Medical Cannabis Summit in Dublin last month. At the Dublin Hemp Museum, Joel shares his opinion. Is CBD medicine or a food supplement?
Joel Stanley and his brother developed a high CBD strain with very low levels of THC which they named Charlotte’s Web, after a girl who suffers from Dravet Syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy.
CBD Scheduled as a Medicine
Recently, news is that Cannabidiol (CBD) will be scheduled as a medicine. The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) “has reviewed the classification of products containing CBD and found them to meet the definition of a medicinal product.”
This doesn’t necessarily mean that CBD will be removed from the retail market immediately, however.
“I think that we have a very serious danger of pharmaceutical interests taking this plant over and lobbying governments to lock cannabis into pharmaceutical only. This would be a shame. This is like locking oranges and vitamin C into pharmaceutical only. This plant really needs to be allowed to exist as a food, as a dietary supplement, as a vitamin basically, but also then as a drug. It can be all these things at the same time.” – Joel Stanley
